Flashback - Birth of Daryl (Birth Story)

On 1st May, Shawn and me went back to my mum house to play mahjong. As since the night before, I was like having tummy pain machiam like I want to poo but can't poo out like that. So I still jokingly tell my mum that sacali I want to give birth liao. And when I take 5 to go toilet to poo and I took so long, Shawn was send out to check if I actually poo-ing or giving birth (WAHAHAHA). After few round of mahjong (don't recall how many rounds), we stop and went for tim sum dinner at geylang (wan tao sek). As the road opposite to the tim sum stall is the durian stall, my dear sister have a craving for durian (don't know whether is me who is pregnant or her lor ;-p), so she bought 3 box of durian and give me a box.

So after sending my family back to hougang, we went home to catch our favourite drama series and have our dessert - Durian. I was still thinking of whether to take a cab to work the next day since I have to bring my office laptop back or just take my usual bus. Also was thinking if suddenly I go into labour then I don't need to go back office the next day. I know I cannot start my leave on 2nd May as I know Kenneth need me to do some slides for his travel before I pop.
Then we went to bed after 12 midnite. However, I was unable to fall asleep and was daydreaming that if I shall go into labour pain shortly, I want and must have mac fillet o fish before i go deliver in hospital. Then suddenly, I feel a pain from my back to my front lower tummy like menses cramp. As I worry that it might be false alarm again, so i get up slowly and go toilet to try to poo without disturbing Shawn. Then to my surprise, i saw blood in the toilet bowl, which mean I have show and contraction at the same time. So without further delay, I wake Shawn up before I wash up. I was still rather calm, so I quickly pack up those small small items to bring to hospital and grab Shawn jacket before we leave the house.
As I worry that the delivery hours will be long, I insist to have a fillet o fish meal on the way to TMC. Then I sms Celeste to help me inform my reporting boss Kia Liang (as I think he should be asleep liao) that I will start my maternity leave the next day since I am in labour pain liao. Celeste can still tell me to eat 2 fillet o fish coz I need alot of strength when I told her what I am eating.

When I reach TMC, the nurse told me my cervix is only 1.5cm open which means it will be a long wait and so she ask if I am in great pain or else I can go home first and come back later. But as the contraction pain is abit too much for me bear + I really see no point in going home then come back again, so I insist to stay.

Same time, I insist on NO EPIDURAL. So I take an injection (pethidine) which is suppose to ease the pain for upto 6 hrs (but I don't think it help at all) and rely on the gas. When my cervix is 5cm open, the gas seem to be of no use, so I ask if i can take another injection however as the time different is only 4 hrs, it was not allow. So I request for them to stronger the gas dosage, which the nurse did stronger it by abit after my insistence. After that I was high on gas. Dr Sim come in the morning and she burst my waterbag to expedite the labour process. However, my contraction and cervic opening seem to slow down after awhile so she ask if I would like to put on drip which will also expedite the labour process but will be more painful. But as the pain was already unbearable, I dare not take the drip.

Then when my cervix was 8cm open, and I was put on drip (water only) as my gynae realise tat i am abit dehydrated but the contraction pain become unbearable, as baby head resting was on my rectum. Which make me keep having the urge to push. But I was told I cant push first, so the feeling was damn terrible and the pain was super duper horrible and I keep screaming that I can't take it liao and also somehow,I have uncontrollablely push. So when my cervic was open about 9plus cm, they allow me to push.

Not sure if I was too drain out of energy after 12 hours of labour pain or what, somehow, I was unable to push out my baby. So Dr Sim (stand in gynae as Dr Beh was out of town) say she will use forcep to help me and thus she have perform episiotomy so that she can insert the forcep in. However, I stil have difficulties in pushing out my baby. Then when Dr Sim told me to push harder, if not she have to emergency c sec me as baby heartbeat is getting no good. This worry me alot, so I start to push with all my might and finally, my boy arrive after 12 noon on 2nd May.

My first view of my baby was when he was place above me cover in blood and I heard his first cry. Then he was take away to clean up and for check up by Paediatric Dr Ong.
Later I was told that my baby was abit big for me and also his face is facing up and not the normal face down thus more difficult to deliver.

After my boy was deliver, I was like too tired to notice anyting liao. Although I can still feel the pain when Dr Sim injected below there to numb it before she sew up. Then I fell asleep. The next moment I wake up, together with my boy, I was push to my ward. Then I also realised, my mum and sister have long arrived while I was in labour.
